Up and Coming: February

Up and Coming

I’m back!

After reviews going crazy in December, did anyone notice that I wasn’t around in January?

I needed a break. I’m studying for a Masters while working a part-time job and while I adore blogging, it was getting on top of me.

Book reviews were fine – reading on the train meant they kept coming. But I hadn’t watched anything for weeks. Sporadic episodes of Breaking Bad was all I achieved in December and I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep the reviews up without it being stressful.

I’ve been off from uni during January and even had some holiday to take from work. I’ve been planning and writing up a few posts during this time, and it’s made me fall in love with blogging again.

A few binge-watching sessions, a few weeks signed up to Netflix and Lovefilm back on track means I’ve been able to catch up in regards to watching.

It’s a tough balance because scheduling too far ahead takes the fun out of it. But hopefully before everything gets crazy again, I will have watched enough that it will take the pressure off.

What have I got planned for this month?

up-and-coming-1

Books: Being off has given me the chance to finally read some physical books. After returning The Blood Mirror by Brent Weeks to the library previously without having the chance to read it, I’m eager to get my teeth into that.

I also have Baba Yaga by Una McCormack sitting on my shelf. I got the second book through Netgalley, so was grateful to receive the first and am looking forward to some science-fiction now I’ve started really developing a taste for it.

The publication date for Ragdoll by Daniel Cole is also this February, so I have been deliberately saving it until now. I hope it’s as good as all the hype suggests – could be in for a whirlwind of a tale there.

My final book will hopefully be Ashes by Steven Manchester.

Has anyone read any of these? What did you think (no spoilers please!)

Films: Now I have caught up on a few things, I can plan reviews. Jane Got a Gun and Gods of Egypt have been on my list for a while, I just never received them when I wanted too. With any luck, they will both be worth the wait.

That binge-session I was talking about? I have just stormed through series 1 & 2 of The 100, so am hoping to get the third series watched and reviewed before the fourth starts to air.

I’ve signed up to Netflix for a few months just to help me catch up on a few things as discs were being sporadic. The main reason, however, was because I am desperate to watch Shadowhunters. This month will hopefully let me review for the first season and start to catch up on the second!

So after a month’s break, there are lots of exciting things to come! What do you have planned?

  1. I can’t wait to see Shadowhunters either. I had thought there would be more movies – I love going to the cinema, but in part because there I’m not tempted to do anything along side watching the film. 🙂

    • I’ve watched some of them now and really enjoying it – it does divert from the books but I still enjoyed it! 🙂 Ha, that is true, it’s so hard only doing one thing at a time these days, isn’t it? Thanks for the comment!

  2. I totally understand the need for a blogging time off. I was a bit out of it around mid January too. If Gods of Egypt is on Netflix, I’ll probably give it a watch. I was excited about it when I first heard the name but was upset at the cast wasn’t very diverse for a film about the Egyptian pantheon.
By the way, did I tell you I started watching Grimm? It’s OK so far but not what I expected.

    • It really worked as well, I’m in such a blogging mood now – should see me through the next few months! Yeah, there was nothing `correct` about Gods of Egypt, but it ended up being quite fun in the end!
Ooh, that’s good 🙂 It did take me a while to get into Grimm, I must admit, but it grew on me!
