Book Tag: Harry Potter Spells Tag

Good morning you lovely people!

It’s that time of month for another book tag. I am starting to get to the point where it can be a little challenging finding ones I haven’t already done, so if anyone knows some great ones, let me know!

This month, however, I’ve found one that I’m excited about. I found this one Dreamland Book Blog, although I’m not entirely certain who the original creator is – if you know, please let me know so I can link them! I get the impression this is a blend of two, but I loved the questions so figured I would go with this one.

So, let the magic begin…

1. Flagarate (writing charm). A book you found interesting but would like to rewrite.

I’ve recently just completed Atlantis: Revelation by Marcus Blake. I enjoyed the premise (Atlantis is real, and still exists, it’s just hidden and humanity is, naturally, proving a threat). But the actions and characterisations were so far-fetched, I’d like to make it more realistic – which is stupid for a book about a mythical city. I liked the premise just didn’t enjoy the book.

2. Alohomora (unlocking charm). A first book in a series that got you hooked.

Oh my word, I think my list would be endless. Recently, Godblind by Anna Stephens, The Dragon Lords: Fool’s Gold by Jon Hollins and Fool’s Errand by Robin Hobb are just a few series that I’ve read this year where I’ve been desperate for the next book/rest of the series, but I could provide an entire list for this one.

3. Accio (summoning spell) A book you wish you could have right now.

Burning White by Brent Weeks. The reason I can’t have it? It’s not yet published/finished. But I’ve adored The Lightbringer Series and am so excited for the final book. I’m currently planning when to start the re-read to time it with this final book.

4. Avada Kedava (killing curse). A killer book.

Darksoul by Anna Stephens. Loads of people get sacrificed to Gods. The entire book is one long battle. And it absolutely killed my emotions pretty much the whole way through, so does this count?

5. Confundo (confusion charm). A book you found confusing.

The Quantum Magician by Derek Kunsken. I’d give a quick synopsis, but I literally have no idea what happened for the vast majority of this book. Ended it in a bewildered and confused state.

6. Expecto Patronum (a guarding spell). Your spirit animal book.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Geekerella by Ashley Poston both speak to my inner fangirl/geek probably a little too much and give me all the fuzzy feelings.  I will always be a fangirl at heart.

I told myself I couldn’t use Eragon in book tags any longer, but as I’m about to re-read, I’m giving myself an exception. If I ever need inspiration or just to get out of a reading slump, this is always the one for me.

7. Sectumsempra (a dark curse). A dark, twisted book.

Behind Closed Doors by B.A Paris. I read this a couple of weeks ago and was so creeped out by what was happening. Such a fantastic read but it definitely gave me the shivers, which is the first time a thriller has really done this.

8. Expecto Patronum (a guarding spell) #2. A childhood book connected to good memories.

Is it weird if I use a Harry Potter book tag to pl(aug Harry Potter? But long summer holidays curled up in the garden reading, devouring this series year after year is one fond memory. A time when there was nothing else that mattered but getting through the book and chilling out.

9. Expelliarmus (a disarming spell). A book that took you by surprise.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel. I didn’t like the film for this book and was dubious about reading it. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it engaging and humorous.

10. Prior Incantato (reverse spell). The last book you read.

I’ve just finished Dragon God (The First Dragon Rider) by Ava Richardson. Her books always strike a chord with me even though they are not the strongest in terms of continuity or even the plots (kinda predictable).

11. Riddikulus (a funny book you’ve read).

The first two books in the Jon Hollins’ Dragon Lord series: I literally giggled my entire way through them and am so excited to read the third one. It’s currently sitting on my bookshelf, calling to me.

12. Sonorus (amplifying charm). A book you think everyone should know about.

Ooh this is hard. I’m honestly not sure I have any answer to this because the books I would suggest are really personal to me as a fantasy lover rather than being one that I feel everyone would necessarily enjoy. Free pass?

13. Obliviate (memory charm).  A book or spoiler you would like to forget so you can read again.

Another tricky one that I actually have multiple answers to. Any of my favourite series I would love the chance to read them again to fall back in love with it and be terrified for the characters all over again rather than knowing they’ll get through it. Fool’s Fate by Robin Hobb absolutely destroyed me at one point, so capture that feeling again would be kinda fun…

14. Imperio (controlling curse). A book you had to read for school.

The Great Gatsby. For the first time in years, I’m preparing myself to read it again to see if I can actually enjoy it this time, but I have bad memories of this book.

15. Crucio (a torture curse). A book that was painful to read.

Destiny of Kings  by Fiona Tarr. The characterisations were so annoying from the very beginning that I cringed my way through it.
