Bonus content: what am I reading and watching?

This year has been a first for me: I’ve just finished a sprint of having five things airing on television at the same time that were on my reviewing list! Typically, they also all finished at the same time, giving me a few weeks’ worth of posts I was able to write up before deciding what is coming next.

But, with both books and television, I’m trying to make a few changes this year. I was reaching a point where everything I was doing had an ulterior motive – aka writing up a review. I had entire lists of things that I either wanted to re-read, or watch with no intention of reviewing them. I wasn’t letting myself previously – and knew that had to change.

To be read and to be watched

So while I catch up with a few reviews and figure out what makes it onto the list, I figured I would take a look at what hasn’t made the reviewing pile this year:

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Okay, trick one here because these have already been reviewed. But I’ve been meaning to re-read them for ages and gradually slipping them in-between reviews over the last few months. I had honestly forgotten how good these were; character traits had been long forgotten and I’ve genuinely enjoyed re-reading them. I’m nearly finished now, but it’s been fun returning to this world.

City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

I’ve got a few series like this that I haven’t re-read since I started blogging seriously because of time restraints. I won’t get through them all this year – I can’t read that fast. But I’m enjoying indulging in a few long series again and being swept up.

Bones

I’ve been watching this on and off for a few years now. I’ve just finished season five, but am finding that I like dipping in and out rather than binge-watching because it starts to get a bit same-y now I’m this far through. I still love it though, and will eventually work my way through all eleven seasons.

Supernatural

I own seasons 1-5 on DVD. I’ve never finished 5. But since they announced the fifteenth series will be the last, I thought it was time to start working my way through them. It was a good plan…it just hasn’t worked too well yet because I’ve only finished season 1 so far this year. Just a time issue with having so much airing that I didn’t want to have a long series on the side.

Merlin

I’m not going to lie – I’ve been itching for a rewatch for months and never let myself do it. I had enough of denying myself things that genuinely give me joy just because of the blog, so have started to indulge. I’ve currently just started series 2.

In terms of blogging, I’m currently watching the final season of Grimm and am slowly working my way through New Amsterdam (it’s my train viewing once a week, so I’m not making fast progress but loving it!).

What are you currently watching or reading?

  1. I used to LOVE Supernatural! I got really behind on it and never caught up. I’m looking for something new to watch though so maybe this could be it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😃 x

  2. Such a great idea to go through what hasn’t made it onto the list to review this year! I’ve been meaning to check out New Amsterdam and Bones so will be interesting to see what your thoughts are on those shows! Enjoyed reading this 🙂

    • I’m loving New Amsterdam although I’m not very far in yet so I hope it continues to be as good. Figured just because they didn’t have full reviews didn’t mean I didn’t want to talk about them. Thanks!

    • It is – and very different! Although I can’t judge because I only watched the first series of the show. I want to watch more but I want some distance between it and the books first! I hope you enjoy it.

  3. I read City of Bones years ago but haven’t had time or space on my reading schedule to do a reread and complete the series but seeing how much you enjoyed your rereading experience is definitely making me consider doing the same! & I tend to dip in and out of certain shows then eventually I’ll watch it all at once! Right now I’m watching The Big Bang Theory, on season 8 currently as I wanted to finish it once and for all. I’m not reading anything currently but I have a few ARC’s I have to start so going to be doing that (:
